MTN users lament as mobile App and USSD channel becomes unavailable

MTN Nigeria subscribers are having difficulty recharging their lines through the unstructured supplementary service data (USSD) channel and mobile banking applications.

The telecommunications operator has blocked its subscribers from recharging their mobile phones or buying data using the Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) codes.

This means that subscribers cannot recharge their lines or buy data plans using the USSD codes or mobile apps particular to their banks.

Subscribers that tried to use My MTNapp, and FinTech firm’s app like FETS, got this response:

“Dear Customer, this service is temporarily unavailable. Kindly contact your Telecom service provider.”

Customers of the telecommunications operator took to social media today to lament.

In a message sent to its customers, MTN asked users to recharge their lines through physical cards.

“Dear Customer, our bank recharge channels are currently unavailable. Kindly recharge using physical cards. We apologies for the inconvenience. Thank you,”

Efforts to reach Funso Aina, MTN Nigeria’s senior manager for external relations, proved abortive as he did not respond to calls or reply to a text message sent.
