Microsoft Finally Shutdown Cortana App for Android and iOS

Microsoft has dropped its support for Cortana apps on Android and iOS platforms on March 31, 2021. Microsoft’s voice assistant alternative to Google Assistant and Siri will continue to function on Windows 10.

Cortana is Microsoft’s version of Siri or Alexa, an AI-based personal assistant that can answer questions and complete small tasks. The eponymous mobile app was originally launched in November 2018, but never gained a user base big enough in its short lifetime for Microsoft to consider it worth maintaining.

As stated on the Microsoft support page, the mobile app will no longer receive support from on March 31, which was yesterday. Lists and reminders will no longer be available through Cortana apps on mobile.

Any content you created using Cortana has stopped functioning in the app, including lists and reminders. You’ll have to use either Cortana on Windows or the To-Do app on Android and iOS to fetch your information.

The planned shutdown of the apps was announced back in July of 2020 when Microsoft said it will shifting focus into an AI-powered assistant for Microsoft 356 apps, which would involve refocusing its “areas of innovation and development.
